Kevin Petrecca, MD, PhD
Dr. Kevin Petrecca is the Chief of Neurosurgery and the head of the Brain Cancer research group at the Montreal Neurological Institute. A leading expert in glioblastoma, his lab integrates molecular and cell biological tools with an active clinical and surgical practice to develop new techniques and targets for therapeutics to prevent brain cancer recurrences and disease progression. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie brain cancer stem cell development, proliferation and invasion. He has published 30 peer-reviewed articles, and presented his research internationally. In addition to his role in inventing the Raman intraoperative probe, he holds 2 patents related to the use of antisense oligonucleotide mediated knockdown of proteins in preventing glioma cancer cell invasion.
